Sounds like we're doing your homework. Could you at least reword the questions so it doesn't look like we're doing all the work for you?
Well, the answer would be a window. The subject and the camera / photographer. And of course, sun light.
--------------
Technique? This is not brain surgery. You stand / sit near the window. Light shines through. Like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/little_pook鈥?/a>
--------------
Camea technique? The light meter measure the light. This photo was taken with a fully manual camera. The light meter suggested a setting, and I just set it. What are you asking? Should you measure the shadow or the highlight?
If you are getting into the technique aspect of this, you might have paid more attention in class.
By the way, I used film, negative film, so the exposure did not have to be right on the dot. What are checkpoints for creating window light portrait?
With photography, there are really no check points for creating any images. Creating images depend upon the photographers keen eye for composition and seeing the way light falls on the subjects.
Before flying an aircraft, you certainly want to use a checklist, but creativity is more of a ';seat of the pants'; and depends upon the photographers experience and training to guide it.
